Hey girls!
Easter weekend went off without a hitch here (and hopefully for you too)! I had Friday off of school since it was Good Friday so I went home on Thursday night and hung out with my sister (we watched a movie and tie-died some t-shirts) and then came back to school on Friday afternoon. When I got back to school two of my friends were here so we went across the street by the canal and threw a frisbee and a football around for a couple hours. Once we became tired and…
For the first time in probably the history of forever and ever I built a website up from the ground, checked off every requirement I was given to run with, and... it worked! I flipped the switch and the website is up and running! I'm pretty proud of myself today. I also managed to lose and then find an envelope full of money in my apartment. So overall, pretty awesome day.
I have 3 more websites to get up before the end of next week. Can I do it? Boy, I hope so! (That's the spirit!)
As a side…

Hello!
I am very excited to be posting my first blog on bringITon. I am even more excited about the event our Women in Computing Science (WISC) group at Queen's is planning. To keep all of you intrigued about what the event is, I am going to first tell you about our WISC group. It is made up of enthusiastic women, including students, faculty and staff in our School of Computing. Our aim is to support and mentor women in the school as well as to encourage young women to discover the wonderful…
It's only the 3rd day of April and... it felt like summer out there this afternoon. I love it! I mean, it worries me, but I love it!
This week has been quite hectic -- I'm working a big contract job that only pays once a month. Normally this would be just fine with me but I've just finished up one of my weekly-paying contracts and was running on fumes with that one so this first month of work with no pay has left me short on my rent! It'll get paid, certainly, when the pay cheque comes in some…

Hey girls!
This past weekend was lots of fun - me, my roommate and four of our guy friends all went up to a friend's place in Petawawa for a night and then to a party in Renfrew ( the host was someone that we knew from Carleton) the next night. I'm going home on Thursday night to visit with my sister but then I'm coming back on Friday morning. Yes, I'm aware that it's Easter this weekend but I have too much work to catch up on and a surprisingly low number of people are actually…
A belated blog to commemorate Ada Lovelace Day.
Yesterday was Ada Lovelace day, the holiday commemorating women's achievements in the field of technology, in memoriam for the world's first computer programmer-a woman.
Ada Lovelace was born on December 10, 1810, the daughter of Lord Byron (yup, the poet) and Annabella Milbanke. Taking a keen interest in mathematics, she worked with Charles Babbage on developing a prototype for the computer, which was never built. During this time, she translated the works of Italian mathematician Luigi…
Ladies,
Now, I'm not advocating wifi signal theft. And that's why I'm at Denny's on my 12th cup of coffee after having eaten a huge breakfast of bacon, eggs, sausage, and pancakes. So. Stuffed.
I have no wifi at home currently because it's being moved from the old house to the new one and was cut off too soon. So for today and tomorrow, I'm on the run looking for cool places to hang out and do work with my trusty little netbook. Oh the wild life of a blogger, I tell ya.
The problem with drinking…

Hey girls!
I'm so sorry about my late reply - my computer's power cord is broken and I have a midterm this Saturday and I'm stressing over it a little so my schedule's been thrown off. There was a lot of work I had to catch up on for it (which was my own fault but I still had to do it) and twice as much material to remember as the first midterm (this class, mechanics, has two midterms). During all of this amazing and warm weather we've been having I've been inside studying and…
Girls!
So here we are -- Day 5 of laryngitis!
This is a particularly awful affliction for a gal who telecommutes 100% of the work week. If it weren't for instant messaging and email, my employers would have no idea I existed at all!
Apart from not having a voice, this week has been fairly difficult in regards to juggling work loads. I have plenty to do, but am running into some issues with splitting up my time according to how many hours my contracts are slated for per week. For example, I have…
Hi girls!
Today has been absolutely packed to the brim with heavy technical work -- setting up WordPress installs on websites, managing FTP access accounts, fixing admin permission settings, setting up MySQL databases -- you name it! Well, for the most part if most people can't quite name it, it's likely something I've had to do today.
Setting up websites is at the outer-most reaches of my skill set. I can write, I can edit, I can network, I can design, I can install and upgrade WordPress and…
