OTTAWA- November 24th, 2009 - Today, CATA WIT (Women in Technology) and Helix Commerce ("Helix") announced today that it is showcasing the BRINGITon site promoting a new web site (www.bringiton.ca) designed to attract women to science and technology careers at the Allstream Global Forum: An Evening with Vice President Al Gore. The inaugural site was launched in early November and is on display in the Green Gallery of Innovation. Green gallery booths will exhibit leading-edge green technologies and communications solutions from this year's event sponsors, some of the world's leading companies. For more information, see: www.allstream.com/globalforum.

The BringIT on program was undertaken with the support from the Status of Women Canada, Ontario Women's Directorate and a number of corporate partners. Global research suggests that to attract more women into the Advanced Technology Sector that we need to address the problem with an integrated approach that starts young, when girls' self concepts and aspirations are formed. To address this, CATA WIT launched a new web destination http://www.bringITon.ca designed specifically for girls and young women, with a focus on educating them about careers in advanced technology and providing access to mentors - women who have been successful in these types of careers.  Built with partners Helix Commerce International Inc. and IGLOO, the site was designed and developed with input from girls in the target demographic.

"The goal of the website is to help young women ages 16-21 be more connected with experienced women in the advanced technology sector and to encourage women to continue with math, science, computer science, information technology disciplines as they develop their careers. To improve Canada's economic position, we need more women pursuing advanced technology career paths. The Green and Clean Tech sector is going to be a key growth opportunity and attractor for young women that value the environment. BringITon is going to be a foundational program for us in moving Canada to a stronger innovation capability in Canada and to grow we need to attract more women into this sector," says Dr. Cindy Gordon, CEO Helix Commerce International Inc, and National Chair, CATA Women in Technology (WIT).

"CATA is an organization committed to the Innovation as a Nation and has 6 core growth planks; one is dedicated to Green Tech in Canada as a stimulus for growth. In addition to these core planks, an immediate advocacy position is recommended for all Canadian leaders to develop the Advanced Technology capacity of women and encouraging women to join the advanced technology market and enroll in mathematics, technology and science-related studies to advance our  innovation success," says John Reid, President of CATA (Source: http://www.cata.ca/Media_and_Events/Press_Releases/cata_pr10180601.html)
